Collaboration Overview
Our partnership with the London Fire Brigade as their BMS Service Provider began in 2005, initially focusing on service contracts and has since grown to encompass a range of energy management and optimization projects. Over the years, we have undertaken various initiatives such as upgrading BMS controllers, transitioning from the Trend 963 to the IQVision Server, and implementing several energy-saving strategies, including Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) work and strategy modifications to enhance energy efficiency. Recently, we also consolidated all their gas, electricity, and renewable energy data onto the BMS, integrating information from multiple providers to streamline energy management.
Energy Reduction Initiatives
Two years ago, we launched a comprehensive energy reduction project that has achieved significant results, with an estimated energy savings of 12-16%, largely due to our interventions. Additionally, we have been consistently carrying out smaller energy and carbon reduction measures over the past 6-8 years, contributing to the overall efficiency and sustainability of their operations.
London Fire Brigade’s Energy Portal
A key component of our collaboration is the London Fire Brigade’s Energy Portal, a module within the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) that controls around 65 percent of the energy used across the Brigade’s 103 fire stations. Introduced in January 2022, the Energy Portal has been instrumental in reducing energy usage across the Brigade’s estate, supporting its mission to become a more sustainable organization. This innovative platform has received significant recognition, winning the Building Management Low Carbon Initiative Award at the prestigious Energy Awards held in July. It was also nominated for the Energy Efficient Partnership of the Year Award for its development in collaboration with Nordomatic.
Current Collaboration and Ongoing Work
We continue to maintain a strong partnership through our ongoing Service Contract. We remain committed to supporting the London Fire Brigade’s energy management needs and ensuring the optimal performance of their systems.
“The implementation of the Energy Portal has been really successful, and we are so pleased by the response and engagement from our staff. Collectively, we all have a part to play in the fight against climate change and the way this system has been set up allows people to do just that. We are committed to becoming a more sustainable organisation, which will help support the Mayor of London’s ambitions to make London carbon net zero by 2030. Saving energy also helps to save money, which can be reinvested into our services, “ said Mitch Layng, Carbon and Utilities Manager at London Fire Brigade, in this article Innovative energy portal helping to boost Brigade’s sustainability wins national award | London Fire Brigade (london-fire.gov.uk)
